Aspen Institute Financial Security Program

Heather McCulloch is an entrepreneur-in-residence at the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program and a national thought leader on gender economic equity. She recently launched the Women in the Economy (WE) project at Aspen FSP, a two-year initiative to inform the design of a gender-equitable economy based on the insights, wisdom, and lived experience of working women across America.

Heather has more than two decades of experience working as an advocate and thought leader in closing the racial and gender wealth gaps and building an equitable economy. Previously, she founded and led Closing the Women’s Wealth Gap (CWWG), a multiracial/ethnic, cross-sector network of leaders working together to transform public policies and systems to advance gender economic equity. Prior to starting CWWG, she was the principal of Asset Building Strategies, a consulting firm that supported nonprofit, philanthropic, public, and private-sector leaders to advance policies and strategies to build the financial security of low-wealth families; and a founding staff member of the national nonprofit, PolicyLink.

Her insights have been covered in major news publications, including CNN Business, Fast Company, The Hill, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, NPR Marketplace, Slate, and USA Today. She earned an MSc in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and a BA in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley.

Emma Tucker is editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires. She is responsible for all global news gathering and editorial operations. Previously, Emma was editor of The Sunday Times—the first female editor of the paper in more than a century. Before that she worked at The Times, where she held several roles including associate features editor and editor of T2, The Times award-winning daily features supplement. Emma also served as editorial director where she helped foster a closer working relationship between the editorial and commercial teams, before being appointed deputy editor.

Prior to The Times, Emma was a reporter with the Financial Times where she covered economics before moving to work in the Brussels and Berlin bureaus. She returned to London in 2001 where she served in several leadership positions.

Carolyn Tisch Blodgett is the CEO and Founder of Next3, where she oversees a portfolio of assets across sports. Sheis the Governor of Gotham FC, the New York / New Jersey NWSL team, where she acts as the lead owner across the business. She also serves as a strategic advisor to the Tisch Ownership Group at the New York Football Giants, supporting ownerships' interest across the business. She is an independent board member at Hatch, a leading sleep technology company, and serves on the Leadership Council of the Robin Hood Foundation.

Carolyn was most recently the Head of Global Marketing at Peloton where she built and led the company’s first ever brand and marketing teams, resulting in an 80% CAGR in revenue from 2016 to 2020 and over 200% CAGR in sales during that period. Under Carolyn’s leadership, Peloton successfully launched the Peloton Bike+, the Peloton Tread, The Peloton Tread+ and Peloton Digital, all while transitioning into a global public company. She has received numerous awards including Crain’s 40 under 40, AdAge 40 under 40, Business Insider’s 25 Most Innovative CMOs in the World, and the AdWeek Brand Genius Award.

Misty Heggeness

Misty Heggeness is an associate professor of economics and public affairs at the University of Kansas and co-director of the Kansas Population Center. She tells data-driven stories about women and caregivers in today's economy, and her latest book project, titled SWIFTYNOMICS, highlights lived stories of women in today's economy through reinvention and authenticity. Monique is a seasoned venture capitalist who has invested in global startup ecosystems in the U.S. and internationally since 2016. Prior to founding Cake Ventures, Monique was a Venture Partner at 500 Startups where she invested in early stage companies in the U.S. and Africa. Following her time at 500 Startups, Monique became a Venture Scout at Lightspeed Venture Partners and a trusted advisor to foundations and venture capital firms like SoftBank where she continues to advise on the Vision Fund’s Emerge program. Before moving to the investor side of the table, Monique spent 15+ years in the startup industry as a founder and operator.

Jess Lee originally wanted to dive into drawing manga, but her parents weren't on board with the whole art school idea. So, she ended up at Stanford doing computer science, which eventually led her to Google Maps as a Product Manager. But life took an unexpected turn when she fell in love with Polyvore, a cool product that blended her love for self-expression with her knack for software development.

She didn't stop at just being a user. Jess emailed the founders with her thoughts and they hired her as employee #1. She wore a ton of hats at Polyvore - from coding and designing UX to building communities, fundraising, and selling ads. The founders even dubbed her a co-founder and shared some of their own shares with her. Fast forward four years, she was running the show as the CEO.

Following Polyvore’s sale to Yahoo!, Jess joined the team at Sequoia, where she is all about being the kind of partner she wished she had when she was hustling as a founder - the go-to person for sharing the highs and lows. Besides investing, she's in the trenches with engineering, product, design, and data science teams. Plus, she's a driving force behind Arc, Sequoia's catalyst for pre-seed and seed stage founders.
